Let’s be so for real, shopping sustainably as a fat person is often really, really hard. While pop-up plus-size markets like Thick Thrift in Los Angeles and Pretty Girl Markets in Texas are a deeply welcome addition to the vintage and thrift scene, the old saying of “people just used to be smaller!” can still be hard to get past when you’re shopping for vintage and used clothing over, say, a size 12. With that difficulty in mind, Vogue has put together a guide to 10 of the very best plus-size vintage options across America.
There are, of course, plenty of amazing size-inclusive online options like Bad Moon Vintage and Goldies Vintage (and IRL spots like Flower Child in Columbus, Ohio, and Moody Goose in San Francisco that offer dedicated plus-size sections), but for this list we’re sticking to stores where all or most of the merchandise is plus-size and can be tried on in person.
Enjoy, and happy (vintage) shopping!
Just steps from Portland’s historic Casco Bay Bridge lies Artemis Plus Size Thrift, one of the very best places to dig for vintage and thrifted treasures on all of the East Coast. In keeping with Portland’s low-key vibe, prices at Artemis are generally on the more reasonable end, but there are some true retro gems tucked in between the chill beach tees and jean shorts.
