Motability gave its boss a more than 20 per cent pay rise last year as the UK business that leases vehicles to people receiving disability payments earned £3bn from taxpayers.

Andrew Miller’s total pay package jumped from £748,000 in 2024 to £924,000 in 2025 to “reflect the growing scale and complexity of the role” of Motability Operations chief executive, the company said on Thursday.

Overall revenues increased by 4.1 per cent to £7.1bn, almost half of which came from the taxpayer, according to its annual report.

Motability said “rental revenue” — the amount it makes from leasing vehicles — was £3.46bn last year, compared with £2.8bn the year before.

As part of that £3.46bn, the company received £3bn from taxpayers in 2024-25, compared with £2.5bn the year before.

The company, which accounts for one in five new vehicles sold in the UK, has come under increasing scrutiny as the government tries to reduce spending on health-related benefits.

Miller’s remuneration included a car allowance as well as a 9 per cent increase in salary from £460,000 to £501,000.

He received £108,000 of deferred bonus awards and a £219,000 annual bonus, compared with £198,000 the previous year, according to the report. The bonus was equivalent to 36 per cent of the maximum bonus he could have received.
