Everyman Cinema Chief Executive Steps Down Weeks After Profit Warning

Alex Scrimgeour, boss of the premium UK cinema operator Everyman Media Group, has stepped down.

Scrimgeour’s departure was announced this morning by the company. He has been replaced on an interim basis by non-executive director Farah Golant.

Scrimgeour leaves just weeks after the company issued a trading update to shareholders as its shares plunged to record lows. The company said at the time that Q4 box office performance had been weaker than expected. Shareholders were told the company now expected revenues of £114.5 million for 2025, down from previous forecasts of £121.5 million.

“We would like to thank Alex for his commitment to Everyman throughout his tenure,” Everyman chairman Philip Jacobson said in a statement.

“He has played a pivotal role in the team that successfully led the business through its recovery from Covid, more than doubling revenue and delivering significant Ebitda (earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation) growth.”

Jacobson added: “Farah has extensive experience across the global creative, entertainment and media industries, and a track record of accelerating growth and cultivating high-performance, results-oriented organisations.”

Everyman runs 49 venues across the UK. The chain is known for its premium seating and extensive food menus. Scrimgeour joined the company in January 2021 after leaving French restaurant chain Côte Brasserie.
