After directing her breakout films Bodies Bodies Bodies and Babygirl for A24, Halina Reijn is reteaming with the studio as the writer and director of Please, a new film to mark the acting debut of Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Gracie Abrams, who will lead the cast.
Plot details are under wraps. Reijn’s frequent collaborator David Hinojosa will produce alongside Reijn through her Man Up banner, with A24 also producing and financing. Zach Nutman will exec produce.
Reijn’s last two films for A24, Babygirl and Bodies Bodies Bodies, were both starry buzz titles — an erotic thriller, starring Nicole Kidman and Harris Dickinson, and a satirical ensemble slasher, respectively. A24 additionally acquired the Dutch actress-and-playwright-turned-filmmaker’s debut feature, Instinct.
Abrams first garnered attention for the EP Minor (2020) and the follow-up This Is What It Feels Like (2021), earning a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist for her 2023 debut album, Good Riddance. Following her headlining tour for that album, she’s toured off and on with Taylor Swift as her opening act on select dates of her blockbuster Eras Tour. She released her sophomore album, The Secret of Us, in June 2024 and it became her first-ever #1 in the UK, Australia and the Netherlands, debuting at #2 on the Billboard 200 in the U.S. She recently finished her first solo arena tour in North America, The Secret of Us Deluxe Tour, which included iconic venues such as Madison Square Garden, Red Rocks Amphitheatre, and the Kia Forum.
Reijn is repped by CAA and Jackoway Austen Tyerman; Abrams by CAA.
