EXCLUSIVE: Luca & Alessandro Morelli, the filmmakers who go by The Morelli Brothers, have assembled an all-star cast for their directorial debut, the indie drama Prima. The call sheet includes Nicola Peltz Beckham (FX’s upcoming The Beauty), Jack Huston (Day of the Fight), Betty Gabriel (Get Out) and Academy Award winners Faye Dunaway (Bonnie & Clyde) and Mira Sorvino (Shining Vale).
Prima follows Margo (Peltz Beckham), a dedicated prima ballerina raised by her disciplinarian and “guardian of the art” grandmother (Dunaway), who begins to unravel when the head of her ballet company (Huston) marries a contemporary choreographer (Gabriel), disrupting the company’s tradition and igniting a quiet, atmospheric power struggle that threatens the very future of the institution. As events unfold, Margo begins to question if the choices made in life are really worth it in the end, a question so many face as difficult decisions can change your life forever.
Currently in production, the film’s most recent screenplay draft was penned by Jenny Taylor-Whitehorn, adapted from a script by Allie Avital & Alia Azamat Ashkenazi and based on a story and character by Peltz Beckham. Producers include Bunny Films and Will McCance (Apex, Lola).
Peltz Beckham is repped by Will McCance and Gersh; Dunaway by Tifanie J. Acosta at Entertainment Law Partners; Sorvino by IAG and Circle Management + Production; Huston by 111 Media, CAA, and Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole; Gabriel by Gersh and Untitled Entertainment; Taylor-Whitehorn by Gersh; Avital by Smuggler and Sugar23; and Ashkenazi by Writ Large.
