On January 9, Chris Noth endorsed a “fuck SJP” message on Instagram, causing everyone in the world to go, “Excuse me?” Is there a Chris Noth and Sarah Jessica Parker feud going on that nobody knew about? Let us explain.
First, the post. On January 10, Noth posted a gym selfie to Instagram with the caption, “F&@k new years – LETS GO!!!!” In the comments someone wrote, per Page Six, “You mean fuck SJP & her award right? lol,” referring to the Carol Burnett Award that Parker won at the Golden Globes. (The program aired as a pre-recorded special before the Golden Globes, and you can watch SJP’s speech here.) Noth replied to the commenter, “Right.”
Where did that come from? While there’s been no official confirmation of a Chris Noth and Sarah Jessica Parker feud or anything, here is what we do know.
Chris Noth and Sarah Jessica Parker were once good friends.
Noth and Parker famously worked together as Mr. Big and Carrie Bradshaw on Sex and the City. On the spinoff show, And Just Like That…, executive-produced by Parker, Noth’s Mr. Big was killed off in the first episode. At the time there was a well-publicized rift between Parker and her former costar Kim Cattrall, and Noth defended Parker in interviews. To the Guardian, he said, “I do know that I’m very close with S.J. and [Cattrall’s] descriptions of her don’t even come close.”
Noth was accused of sexual assault in the wake of the #MeToo movement.
Then, shortly after AJLT… premiered in December of 2021, Noth was accused of sexual assault by two women speaking to The Hollywood Reporter. Noth denied the accusations in a statement to the outlet, saying, “The accusations against me made by individuals I met years, even decades, ago are categorically false.” A third woman then made sexual assault allegations against Noth to the Daily Beast, which Noth also denied.
In response to the accusations, Parker and her costars Kristen Davis and Cynthia Nixon released a joint statement saying, “We support the women who have come forward and shared their painful experiences. We know it must be a very difficult thing to do and we commend them for it,” per People.
Where do they stand now?
TVLine later reported that Noth was to have a cameo in the finale episode of AJLT… season one, which was scrapped in the wake of the accusations.
