Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley to report earnings

Welcome to the FT’s live coverage of a busy day on Wall Street.

Investment banking powerhouses Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley — as well as BlackRock, the world’s biggest asset manager — will this morning report results for the fourth quarter.

The core business will probably remain a bright spot for Goldman and Morgan Stanley, keeping US banks on course for their best year for investment banking since the pandemic.

Results from other big lenders this week have been a mixed bag, however.

Developments in Washington have overshadowed earnings, and a focus will be the comments from executives on some of the investment trends and risks governing markets.

Executives could be asked to share their views on US central bank independence and Donald Trump’s proposed cap on credit card interest rates, as well as what political instability in Iran and Venezuela might mean for global markets.

Follow the FT’s live coverage of the results and analyst calls.
