Green Day To Headline Super Bowl LX Opening Ceremony

Punk rock band Green Day is set to kick off Super Bowl LX with an opening ceremony performance that will celebrate six decades of the NFL event. The four-time Grammy-winning group will return to its Bay Area roots to honor and usher generations of Super Bowl MVPs onto the field, per an NFL announcement.

The Rodeo-hailing band — comprising Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool — will descend on Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. Feb. 8 beginning at 3 p.m. PT. NBC, Telemundo, Peacock and Universo will broadcast the set, which tees up the stage for future performances from the previously announced pregame entertainment lineup of Charlie Puth, Brandi Carlile and Coco Jones.

“We are super hyped to open Super Bowl 60 right in our backyard!” said Green Day lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong in a statement. “We are honored to welcome the MVPs who’ve shaped the game and open the night for fans all over the world. Let’s have fun! Let’s get loud!”

Tim Tubito, NFL senior director of event and game presentation, added: “Celebrating 60 years of Super Bowl history with Green Day as a hometown band, while honoring the NFL Legends who’ve helped define this sport is an incredibly powerful way to kick off Super Bowl LX. As we work alongside NBC Sports for this opening ceremony, we look forward to creating a collective celebration for fans in the stadium and around the world.”

As reported, Puth will perform the national anthem, Carlile will sing “America the Beautiful” and Jones will deliver “Lift Every Voice and Sing.”

Afterward, Bad Bunny will headline the much-anticipated Halftime show. Historically the most-watched live entertainment performance of the year and a major ratings player, the superstar Puerto Rican artist recently unveiled a teaser of his show that emphasizes a message of unity, with the tagline: “The world will dance.”
