Netflix is making a documentary feature on Lucy Letby, the former nurse who is serving life in prison after being convicted of the murders of seven infants and the attempted murders of seven others. Watch the trailer below for The Investigation of Lucy Letby, which launches February 4.
The feature-length doc will feature “new materials and testimony from the British police who investigated the case and never-before-seen footage of Letby during her arrest and questioning,” Netflix said.
ITN Productions is producing the movie. The BBC, ITV and Channel 4 have all already made Letby docs about one of the most high-profile British trials of all time.
The documentary also includes contributions from the mother of one of the victims speaking about her experiences and involvement in Letby’s trial. This is the first time that a family member involved in the prosecution has spoken in a documentary, Netflix said.
Letby’s story shocked the nation. She came under investigation following a high number of unexpected infant deaths that occurred at the neonatal unit of the Countess of Chester Hospital three years after she began working there. She was charged in November 2020 with seven counts of murder and fifteen counts of attempted murder in relation to 17 babies. She is serving a whole life sentence but since the end of her trials and the lifting of reporting restrictions, various experts have expressed doubts about her convictions due to the evidence. This will no doubt be raised in the Netflix movie.
Dominic Sivyer (Rebel Nun) is directing the movie and Caroline Short and Ian Rumsey are EPing for ITN Productions.
Earlier today, we revealed Netflix is also making a UK documentary about the tragic death of Tony Parsons, who was killed on a charity bike ride.
