EXCLUSIVE: Independent production company Camelot Films (Prizefighter: The Life of Jem Belcher) is launching a sales division and its own financing arm, alongside an expansion of its Malta-based production services.
The sales slate includes TV series Psychedelic Adventures, action-thriller feature X-Killers, sports-driven reality series Battle of the Beasts and documentary Built for the Unknown, about extreme athlete and adventurer Ash Dykes.
Psychedelic Adventures follows a spiritual couple as they travel across California exploring plant medicines in a search for meaning and self-discovery. The eight-part series has recently completed post-production.
Battle of the Beasts, financed by Camelot, sees 12 of the strongest athletes in the world compete across six gruelling physical and mental challenges. The show is hosted by Eddie ‘The Beast’ Hall, boxer and reality star Tommy Fury, actor Matt Hookings and four-time World’s Strongest Man, Brian Shaw. The series will include at least one female athlete competing alongside men.
Camelot recently closed deals for reality series House of Streams to Netflix in the UK and doc Psychopath Life Coach, also to Netflix, and with Tubi for the U.S.
Camelot’s sales activities will be led in-house by producer Luke Croft-Faulkner, sales associate Elias Segal, Pinewood Studios producer Tim Kent, and CEO of Camelot, Matt Hookings, who will attend this week’s European Film Market in Berlin.
Upcoming films produced and backed by Camelot include feature The Awakening, starring Peter Stormare, Alice Eve, Justin Tinto and Kevin Spacey, which is being sold by Pia Patatian from Noora Films.
Camelot has attached Roel Reiné (Halo) to direct The Awakening 2, which will again star Justin Tinto and is due to shoot in Malta this fall. Stormare and Spacey are understood to be among cast from the first film who could potentially return but deals are not yet papered. Noora Films is also due to handle sales on the sequel.
Matt Hookings, CEO of Camelot, claimed: “Since 2019, we have built a track record of generating over $150M of production expenditures into Malta. By bringing development, financing, production, and sales capabilities in-house, we’re redefining what the future of independent filmmaking can look like.”
Adrian Goodisman, Chairman of Camelot, added: “This announcement represents a significant milestone for Camelot and builds on our 2023 decision to move our corporate headquarters to Malta. We continue to position ourselves as a strategic partner of choice for production companies and studio’s seeking to maximise the full commercial, operational, and creative advantages of filming in Malta.”
The company is best known for Russell Crowe-starring boxing film Prizefighter: The Life of Jem Belcher, which was sold to Amazon.
