French sister companies The Jokers Films and Logical Pictures International (LPI) have boarded Michel Gondry‘s upcoming film Little Fears.
Distributor The Jokers Films, the current slate of which also features Berlinale title A Prayer for The Dying, will oversee the French release, while LPI will handle sales and introduce the production to buyers at the EFM.
Their parent company French film finance, production and distribution company Logical Pictures Group announced the joint pick up on Monday, just days after it officially unveiled the creation of new sales arm LPI. Headed by Andrei Kamarowsky, it succeeds the group’s previous sales arm Pulsar Content.
Logical Pictures Group said the joint distribution and international sales rights acquisition was emblematic of the sorts of synergies it wanted to create across its subsidiaries.
First announced by Gondry last summer, Little Fears follows in the wake of the Oscar-winning Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind director’s recent animated films Maya, Give Me a Title and Maya 2.
The Logical Pictures Group said that the deal strengthened its historic links with Gondry and his longtime producer Georges Bermann at Partizan, forged by The Jokers Films, which distributed the director’s 2023 drama The Book of solutions and Maya Give Me A Title.
Billed as “a dark tale imbued with surrealist poetry” and told from a child’s perspective, Little Fears follows Julia and Nina whose childhood in a seemingly peaceful village is shaken when they discover a human skull in their garden, sparking rumors, fear, and suspicion.
“I want the spectator to soften the present image and allow the image of childhood to resurface” Gondry was quoted as saying in the Logical press release. “By adopting the point of view of the two young heroines, Nina and Julia, the viewer rediscovers an innocent, sincere, and vibrant perception of the world.”
The adult cast features Gilles Lellouche (Dog 51, Sink or Swim), Bastien Bouillon (Leave One Day), and Valérie Donzelli (At Work).
