EXCLUSIVE: Beetz Brothers and Mediawan Rights have unveiled details of deals to date for Andreas Pichler’s documentary Elon Musk Unveiled – The Tesla-Experiment.
Taking its cue from investigations into the alleged failure of Elon Musk’s Tesla company to address concerns over deadly faults with the autopilot function of its self-driving cars, the work also traces the tech tycoon’s meteoric rise and shift toward Donald Trump.
The documentary has secured 16 deals into 12 territories since its premiere last November at the International Documentary Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) in its Frontline section.
Cologne-based distributor RealFiction has acquired theatrical rights for Germany and will launch the film in cinemas on March 12. It’s other recent and upcoming releases include Mahdi Fleifel’s To A Land Unknown, Isa Willinger’s No Mercy and Berlinale 2025 Panorama title I Understand Your Displeasure.
The film has also sold theatrically into the Czech Republic (Atlas Kino) and Poland (Against Gravity), while multi-platform deals include to Spain and Portugal (Filmin), Switzerland (RSI RTS, SRF), Flemish-speaking Belgium (VRT), Australia (SBS) and Greece (Cinebo).
Since the IDFA premiere, the documentary has also played at FIPADOC in France and Sweden’s Göteborg Film Festival and has another 15 confirmed festival screenings ahead of the summer.
Mediawan Rights’ documentary arm has been continuing to consolidate sales on the film, co-produced with ARD and Sky, at the EFM.
Arianna Castoldi, Head of Documentaries at Mediawan Rights, said negotiations were actively progressing across the remaining territories, with particular emphasis on securing a U.S. deal as discussions intensify with key North American buyers.
“Elon Musk Unveiled – The Tesla-Experiment is already one of fastest selling docs and a perfect showcase of what we can achieve together within the Mediawan group,” said Castoldi.
Beetz Brother is part of Leonine Studios, which in turn is owned by Paris-based pan-European content banner Mediawan Group.
“Making an investigative film is never easy, especially when it’s about the most powerful man on the planet. I’m deeply grateful to all the brave whistleblowers and participants who stepped in front of the camera. Their courage reminds us all why speaking truth matters,” said Beetz Brothers co-founder and co-Managing Director Christian Beetz.
Beetz Brothers Film Production has been active in the international market for over 25 years, with more than 350 documentaries and over 100 international awards to its name. In 2026, the company introduced six new labels, including beetzINVESTIGATIVE, which debuted with Elon Musk Unveiled – The Tesla-Experiment.
