YouTube Outage Affects Homepage, App & YouTube TV; Issue Resolved After Fix To “Recommendation System”

YouTube is addressing the issue that took the service down for some users for a couple of hours.

Many users took to social media to complain that YouTube was not loading certain videos. The digital media platform was inundated with reports that some users were not able to stream videos on the site.

“If you’re having trouble accessing YouTube right now, you’re not alone — our teams are looking into this,” TeamYouTube posted on X, the microblogging platform formerly known as Twitter.

An update minutes later was shared with users, acknowledging the outage and the reason why some were experiencing difficulties accessing videos.

“An issue with our recommendations system prevented videos from appearing across surfaces on YouTube (including the homepage, the YouTube app, YouTube Music and YouTube Kids). The homepage is back, but we’re still working on a full fix,” read the update.

YouTube noted that they also saw “a small number of reports that some people are unable to login to YouTube TV. This is related to the broader issue across YouTube, and we’re also working on a fix here.”

It wasn’t long before YouTube issued a “final update” stating that the “recommendation system has been resolved on all platforms” and that everything was “back to normal.”

“We really appreciate you bearing with us while we sorted this out,” YouTube said in a statement.

On X, YouTube informed their followers that the issue had been resolved, posting, “Aaaand we’re back!! This issue has been fixed across YouTube. Thanks for all the reports and for bearing with us while we sorted it out.”
