When Is ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem 2’ Opening?

Paramount and Point Grey’s animated sequel Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem 2 will now go on August 13, 2027 instead of September 17, 2027. Clearly, that’s to capture those kids still off from school versus the fall, when they’re distracted with myriad school activities.

The first Mutant Mayhem opened on August 2, 2023 during the strikes (meaning the actors couldn’t promote). The pic saw a five-day start of $43M (after a three-day total of $28M) and a final domestic of $118.7M and near global of $182M. The bigger deal is that the movie spurred $1 billion in retail sales for Paramount during calendar year 2023. At the time, Turtles repped Paramount Consumer Products’ most ambitious launch yet, counting north of 400 licensees for the film and 1,100 total for the franchise. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles products were available in more than 550 retailers, totaling 40,000 retail doors, and in more than 220 markets worldwide.

The studio took ownership of the TMNT IP created by Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman in 2009.

Jeff Rowe returns to direct the sequel, with Kyler Spears and Yashar Kassai co-directing. Producers are Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, Josh Fagen and Ramsay McBean. EP is Lukas Williams.

Mutant Mayhem 2 will go up against Warner Bros’ Tim Miller-directed Keanu Reeves movie on its new date as well as a Universal-Blumhouse movie.
