EXCLUSIVE: Ever since Adolescence shot up the Netflix charts and dominated the zeitgeist, concerned Brits have been wondering what is driving the terrible crimes exhibited in the show.
Crime+Investigation UK and Vice Studios, in association with Krempelwood, have been investigating with On Gangs presenter and former EastEnders hard man Ross Kemp, and we’ve got exclusive trailer a week before premiere.
In Ross Kemp: Lost Boys, Deadly Men, the host questions why some young men in Britain are committing acts of extreme violence. He meets people who inform him about the growing crisis in masculinity at a time when violence against women and girls has been declared a national emergency. Looking beyond sensational headlines and political soundbites, Kemp examines the deeper social, cultural and online influences shaping a generation of young men.
Kemp played notorious EastEnders hard man Grant Mitchell for years on and off and has presented numerous documentaries on tough topics.
“Our aim was never to offer easy answers,” said Joe Ingham, Executive Producer, Vice Studios. “We wanted to explore the pressures young men face, from family breakdown to social isolation, and how that can manifest itself. Crucially, we wanted to ensure the voices of victims and those affected by male violence were heard as well as those offering interventions and support.”
Kemp’s show comes a few weeks after we revealed Louis Theroux was investigating the manosphere in a 90-minute feature doc for Netflix. Theroux told us his doc is “sort of nothing like Adolescence but it’s in the precinct of what the boy in Adolescence might have been watching.”
