Running Point Season 2: Everything We Know About the Return of Kate Hudson’s Basketball Show

Hot off Running Point’s rookie season, viewers are already wondering if season 2 will be a slam dunk for Netflix.

Now that my only two basketball puns are out of the way, let’s talk about Kate Hudson’s new comedy series, loosely inspired by the real-life owner and CEO of the Los Angeles Lakers, Jeanie Buss. In the series, cocreated by Mindy Kaling, Hudson plays a fictional NBA nepo baby who takes over as president of the fictional Los Angeles Waves after one of her brothers gets into an accident while high on drugs.

Think Succession meets Ted Lasso, and you have a pretty good idea what you’re in for—though you should probably go watch the show before you read any further.

By the end of the show’s first season, Isla Gordon (Hudson) has brought her NBA team all the way to the playoffs only to lose in game seven. In the final scene Gordon returns to her office to find her brother Cam (played by Justin Theroux) out of rehab and sitting in her chair. See what I said about Succession? “I’m back,” he tells her, ominously. If that sounds like the perfect layup for season 2, Hudson and Kaling agree.

“I had so much fun doing this. I just want to keep doing it,” Hudson told Entertainment Tonight. In the same interview Kaling sent a personal message to Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos, saying, “We love making the show, if you want to just pick us up for five more seasons.”

Lucky for Kaling, she’s got the data on her side: Running Point currently holds the top spot on Netflix’s TV show rankings, meaning there’s plenty of appetite for more of the Gordon family’s kooky dynamics.

Here’s what we know—and want to know—about season 2 of Running Point.

When will Running Point season 2 premiere?

Netflix announced in February 2026 that fans will not have to wait much longer for season two: Running Point will return on April 23, 2026.

Just one week after the show’s premiere on February 27, 2025, Netflix announced that the series got the green light for season 2.

“We are so thrilled to be able to deliver a season 2 of Running Point to the fans of the show,” said Kaling, per The Hollywood Reporter. “We still cannot believe the response from audiences—thank you to everyone who has watched! Thank you to our partners at Netflix, Warner Brothers, our star who brought this show to life, Kate Hudson, and executive producers Jeanie Buss and Linda Rambis, without whom there would be no Running Point.”

What will be the plot of season 2?

Obviously there will be some sort of power struggle between Isla and Cam, though the Waves president is also dealing with some uncertainty in her love life.
