It was quite an erratic week on Netflix as audiences gravitated toward everything from the Alan Ritchson and Dennis Quaid-starrer War Machine to new seasons of Bridgerton and The Night Agent to a slew of dinosaur-related content.
While some fans are already eagerly awaiting news on the next season of Bridgerton, others are still enjoying the conclusion of Benedict (Luke Thompson) and Sophie’s (Yerin Ha) love story in Season 4.
The latest season maintained another week atop the Netflix TV Top 10 with 13.1M views from March 2 to 8, marking the first full seven days since the final episodes of Season 4 were released on February 26. That’s after the arrival of the remaining episodes boosted the season to 28M views in their debut weekend.
It is difficult to compare the performance of the first half of the season to the second half, because Netflix’s methodology for split seasons is quite complex. The streamer calculates views as hours viewed divided by runtime, so when the first batch of episodes releases, the views are determined using just the runtime of the first half. When more episodes are available, the runtime goes up as well, meaning that even if the second half of the series put up the same number of viewing hours as the first, the calculation would result in a lower “view” count.
For what it’s worth, the first four episodes of Season 4 ushered in 23.4M views in their first full week.
Speaking of Netflix’s book adaptations, The Night Agent also appears to be putting up a solid performance after a bit of a lackluster debut. The third season came in at No. 3 on the Top 10 list this week with 5.2M views. As we mentioned in last week’s report, any sustained momentum was bound to lead to a renewal, which it earned late last week.
A new docuseries from executive producer Steven Spielberg and Amblin Entertainment snuck past the political thriller to take second place. The Dinosaurs — which over our episodes narrated by Morgan Freeman, chronicles the rise, evolution, and fall of the dinosaurs across millennia, covering the creatures of the Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous periods — raked in 10.4M views.
Speaking of, it seems Netflix audiences were hungry for dino content, because the Jurassic World movies totally took over the English film list. Jurassic World Rebirth came in at No. 2 with 6.7M views, Jurassic World at No. 6 with 3.2M views, Jurassic World: Dominion at No. 8 with 2.8M views, and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom at No. 10 with 2.5M views.
Elsewhere in TV, the Rachel Weisz–led dark dramedy Vladimir made it to No. 4 with 4.2M views. In film, the top spot went to the new sci-fi military action film War Machine with 39.3M views.
And, if you’re wondering where the World Baseball Classic games are, those don’t count for the Netflix Global Weekly Top 10. Those games are streaming only in Japan, and those figures will be available at the end of the tournament. This is similar to Netflix’s approach with NFL games, opting to keep them out of the top 10 and using a combination of third party and first party data to report performance.
