First Look At Megan Thee Stallion In Broadway’s ‘Moulin Rouge!’

Megan Thee Stallion is set to make her Broadway debut next week as the impresario Zidler in Moulin Rouge! The Musical, and today we’re getting a sneak peek at the singer in full Moulin regalia.

Although traditionally portrayed by a male-identifying actor – the character has heretofore been called “Harold Zidler” rather than the new “Zidler” – Megan Thee Stallion will portray the cabaret owner as female rather than dressing in male drag, at least judging by the newly released image.

A three-time Grammy winner, Megan Thee Stallion will play the role for a strictly limited eight-week engagement at the Al Hirshfeld Theatre beginning on Tuesday, March 24 and finishing up on Sunday, May 17.

Last month, the Broadway newcomer called her casting “an absolute honor.”

“I’ve always believed in pushing myself creatively and theater is definitely a new opportunity that I’m excited to embrace,” she said in a statement. “Broadway demands a different level of discipline, preparation and storytelling, but I’m up for the challenge and can’t wait for the Hotties to see a new side of me.”

Moulin Rouge! opened on Broadway in 2019, temporarily closed during Broadway’s 2020 Covid shutdown and reopened in 2021. It went on to win 10 Tony Awards including Best Musical. A closing date of July 26 has been announced.

Producer Carmen Pavlovic said last month, “This historic casting is a major part of our closing celebrations: our farewell gift to Broadway audiences and one of our biggest announcements in the history of Moulin Rouge! The Musical. We want our show to go out with a spectacular bang, and Megan is the force of nature to lead us there. And yes, there will be a hint of music from her own iconic catalogue. It’s an unmissable moment for both Megan’s fans and ours.”

The role of “Harold Zidler” was originated by Tony-winner Danny Burstein. Bob the Drag Queen is currently in the role with his limited engagement finishing up this Sunday, March 22.
