Glamour: For the benefit of our readers, can you break down how long you and John spent together during each stage of Age of Attraction?
Theresa DeMaria: So the first stage was about two and a half weeks, give or take a day. We all went to the Promise Room at the same time. It looks like I went after day two, but they actually didn’t even air two of the four dates that John and I went on before we actually got to the Promise Room. We probably had the most dates out of everybody because he basically locked me down from day one. He made it quite clear from the very beginning that I was the only one that he was interested in. So obviously that was very appealing to me. In my opinion, one of the best-, if not the best-looking, guys there, and very charismatic and successful and all of those things.
What were the dates that weren’t shown?
We went zip-lining together. Right after we went zip-lining, John and I sat at the fireplace again and talked about my work and dove a little bit deeper into what we were both looking for in a relationship and what was missing in our lives that we were hoping a partner would fulfill.
We also had another date that was “yoga.” They were setting us up to do tantric yoga, which they don’t show at all because I think it was a little over the top, sexually. I was so uncomfortable. In fact, I think I was a little angry at that date because they put me in such an awkward position. I felt like it was too early to be in that world with him.
How did he feel about it?
He’s a very go with the flow kind of a guy, so he was kind of like, “Okay, whatever.” But I think he was also very uncomfortable. Tantric yoga is obviously meant to be the precursor to intimate relations. And he and I had barely even kissed at that point, aside from a peck. We’d never done any making out, tongue kissing, or any of that stuff, so it was kind of a little awkward. And to be filmed doing that with our peers around…it was just weird. I was like, I’m not into this. I’m not a PDA person.
What did you know about the show going into it?
I definitely knew I was contacted because I look and act a little bit younger than I am. That is not something that I try to do; I just have decent genes and I work out and whatever. So they cast me because of my sort of age ambiguity. And then they asked, “Would you date younger guys?” And I said, “Yes. I have experience dating younger guys because I’m not typically attracted to guys my age, or they’re just kind of boring, or for a variety of different reasons.” And so they were like, “Okay, perfect. Because the show that we’re casting for is about ageless dating.”
