Cannes Market Unveils AI For Talent and Creator Economy Summits

The Cannes Film Festival’s Marché du Film (May 12-20) is extending its AI For Talent Summit which will mark its second year this May after a one-day inaugural edition last year.

The second edition will run on May 15 and 16, with the invite-only summit bringing together top executives from the film and tech sectors to explore the latest real-world applications of AI in creative and business processes once again.

This year’s event will focus on the three key themes of integrating AI into production workflows, the ethical and responsible use of AI, and education, through real-world examples. The speaker lineup will be unveiled in the coming weeks.

The summit is among a raft of future-facing events being laid on by the Marché du Film under its innovation-focused Cannes Next strand.

For the second year running most the Cannes Next activities will unfold in the Village Innovation based on the Pantiero side of the Village International.

The 1,000 m² space overlooking the old port view will boast a large virtual production demonstration stage this year as well as booths and conference spaces.

Not everything will unfold in the Innovation Village.

The Immersive Market and the Cannes Immersive Competition will be based at Carlton Hotel with a new reconfigured demo space able to host 80 to 225 participants simultaneously.

This marks a change from last year when each project was presented in its own dedicated space, with individual or small-group experiences. The new configuration will allow for large-scale, multi-user experiences, with the market billing the format as the “first of its kind” for an immersive competition.

All the selected works will be presented rotation within the new 450m² venue, designed to showcase a wide range of formats from VR experiences to large-scale video mapping.

The Immersive Market will also use this new space to host 150 selected immersive producers and catalog holders, and enable them to project live demos of their works to 90 leading distributors and curators.

As previously announced, the market is also Introducing the market’s first Creator Economy Summit, tapping into the move of digital content creators into long-form storytelling and film production.

The summit will explore how the two worlds connect – from adapting digital IP into cinematic projects and scouting emerging talent, to engaging audiences that drive communities to theaters and exploring innovative marketing strategies.

In another development, this market will also benefit from the recent revamp of its long-running online database and networking platform Cinando.

Under the update, The Marché du Film Online, created in 2020 in response to the Covid-19 pandemic for remote participants, will fully migrate to Cinando’s rebuilt system.

“We advocate innovation that serves both artistic creativity and the growth of the industry as a whole,” said the market’s Executive Director Guillaume Esmiol.

“We are dedicated to supporting and driving innovation, from technological advances that have continuously reshaped how films are conceived, produced, and distributed, to a broader mindset that reimagines business models, partnerships, and relationships.”

The Cannes Marché du Film runs from May 12 to 20, with the Cannes Film Festival running May 12 to 23
