The same day that the finale episode aired, September 17, Amazon Prime announced that there will be a The Summer I Turned Pretty movie, which will continue the story. The show was based on Jenny Han’s trilogy of books, but the movie is new territory. Here’s what we know.
Who is writing the script?
It wouldn’t be The Summer I Turned Pretty without its creator, Jenny Han. The Amazon press release confirmed that Han would write alongside Sarah Kucserka; Han will also direct the fourth and (as far as we know) final installment.
What will the movie be about?
We have very few details so far, only that there is one more stage in Belly’s life that Han would like to explore. “There is another big milestone left in Belly’s journey, and I thought only a movie could give it its proper due,” Han said. “I’m so grateful to Prime Video for continuing to support my vision for this story and for making it possible to share this final chapter with the fans.”
As for what that milestone could be, your guess is as good as ours. Maybe Belly will finally get that dream wedding she was trying to plan.
Who is returning from the show’s cast?
According to People, both Lola Tung as Belly and Christopher Briney as Conrad are set to return for the film. Gavin Casalegno (Jeremiah), Sean Kaufman (Steven), and Rain Spencer (Taylor) will also be back.
When does the movie premiere?
On December 3, 2025, Han confirmed to E News that she had only just completed the script. “We have not filmed anything yet,” she said. “I know that everyone was hoping that it was coming out this Christmas, but unfortunately, not happening, not possible.”
So…when will it come out? If we were to hazard a guess, we’d say earliest would be Christmas 2026. Of course, as soon as we have any concrete information, we’ll update update this post.
This post will be updated.
