Caffeine is a triple threat for undereye concerns. Caffeine constricts blood vessels in the skin, which can reduce swelling and puffiness almost instantly. That also leads to long-term benefits. “By improving circulation, caffeine can help diminish the appearance of dark circles under the eyes,” says board-certified dermatologist Navin S. Arora, DO. Finally, caffeine is an antioxidant, which means it “helps protect the skin from environmental stressors,” he says.
Beyond caffeine, your choice should come down to your specific concerns, says to board-certified dermatologist Hope Mitchell, MD. “It’s important to look for key ingredients that enhance its effectiveness. Look for ones with hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid or glycerin to keep the skin plump and smooth, preventing dryness and fine lines,” she says. If you have dark circles, opt for one that has vitamin C, vitamin E, or antioxidants to help brighten the skin. And if you notice loss of elasticity, eye bags, and wrinkles around your eye area, you can opt for caffeine eye creams that also have peptides or retinol to help increase and maintain collagen production.
