Billy Rae Cyrus
Miley’s father, Billy Rae Cyrus, famously played her father in the show, Robby Stewart. He joins her during the special to reflect on making the show together. “The show wasn’t written for us but in some ways it feels like it was,” says Miley.
Billy Rae recalled that he auditioned for the role, assuming that someone else would get it. However, as Miley told Variety, “It was so obvious, after all the other dads, that you can’t fake the kind of connection that we have. The inside jokes, the nicknames, the handshakes, singing the songs together. It was a TKO.”
Tish Cyrus
Miley’s mom and Billy Rae’s ex-wife, Tish Cyrus, also plays a key role in the special, digging up old outfits, fan letters, and scrapbooks from Miley’s past. Watching the pair dig through Hannah’s iconic wardrobe is one of the most nostalgic parts of the special.
“You’ve just always really taught me to be in the moment, be authentic to who you are, and you’ve never tried to keep me Hannah. You wanted Miley to express herself, even if that meant losing all of this,” Miley told Tish.
