EXCLUSIVE: AMC+ has landed U.S. rights to BBC crime drama This City is Ours.
The deal is one of a number distributor Sony Pictures Television has struck ahead of its London TV Screenings showcase today in the UK capital.
Since its launch at the Screenings last year, a number of other deals have closed, comprising Stan (Australia), Sky (New Zealand, Germany, Switzerland, Austria), Bell Media (English-speaking Canada), Quebecor Content (French-speaking Canada), RTE (Ireland), TIM Vision (Italy), Movistar Plus+ (Spain), AXN (Portugal), YLE (Finland), Telia Estonia (Estonia), Telia Play (Lithuania), Tet+ (Latvia), Nova (Greece), Syn (Iceland), Yes (Israel), Videoland (Netherlands), TV2 Norway (Norway), SVT (Sweden), Sony LIV (India), HBO Max (Central and Eastern Europe, Poland), and BeIN (Middle East and North Africa, Türkiye).
The series will launch next month on AMC+ in the U.S. next month.
Set in Liverpool, This City is Ours comes from SPT-owned Left Bank Pictures and writer-creator Stephen Butchard. It was the BBC’s most watched new drama launch of 2025, attracting a consolidated average of 5.8 million viewers, with more than 7.8 million viewers for the first episode. Almost three million streamed the series finale ahead of its BBC One transmission.
The show centres on crime boss Ronnie Phelan (Sean Bean), who attempts to retire from criminal life, only for an intense power struggle between his right-hand man, Michael Kavanagh (James Nelson-Joyce), and his son Jamie (Jack McMullen). Hannah Onslow, Darci Shaw, Julie Graham and Laura Aikman are also among the ensemble cast.
The eight-part series was recommissioned for a second season, which is currently in production in Liverpool and Spain.
The sale to AMC+ is a second BBC series that SPT has shopped into the U.S. in recent weeks. Earlier this month, we revealed Netflix had bought Lord of the Flies.
Jason Spivak, Co-President, Distribution & Networks, SPT, says, “We’re thrilled that This City is Ours will debut on AMC+ in the US, a testament to the series’ global appeal. The show taps into the enduring strength of family-driven crime drama — a powerful saga set inside a criminal empire where power, loyalty, and betrayal collide. Following its breakout launch at last year’s London Screenings, we’re excited to build on that momentum as we head into this year’s event.”
SPT’s 2026 slate includes scripted series S.W.A.T. Exiles and another Left Bank show, Dear England.
The London TV Screenings continue running today and end tomorrow following Fremantle’s showcase.
