Spanish label Gimaguas is one of the first brands to debut the trend. A successful gamble, given that many sizes of their new It shoes are already out of stock.
Of course, the ballerina wedge isn’t a totally new concept. Anyone who survived the 2010s will remember wearing similar wedge heels. Which is why their return to the spotlight has been met with some pushback. However you feel about it, though, they’re here to stay for now.
They also offer an alternative for those exhausted by the extremes to which ballet flats have taken as of late. The shoes have been presented in mesh and fluffy winter versions. They’ve been embroidered with rhinestones and embellished with studs and crystals. Any whim of fashion houses and labels seems to go for this shoe silhouette. But stripped of all superfluous details, this season’s ballerina wedges are, for now, sticking to an ultraminimalist approach.
