BBC Studios’ Janet Brown To Exit Content Sales

BBC Studios sales boss Janet Brown is exiting and the role is relocating to the UK.

Brown is the second senior BBC Studios bod based in the States to leave over the past few months following Rebecca Glashow, CEO of BBC Global Media & Streaming.

BBC Studios wants to relocate Brown’s role to London HQ to work more closely with productions chief Zai Bennett and his team. Brown declined to relocate and will “pursue new opportunities,” BBC Studios said. The new UK-based role will oversee all global content sales including the UK.

“This strategic change looks to the future and will support us building a truly unified content studio that combines world-class production with global sales excellence,” said Bennett. “Janet has made an indelible contribution to our business, we are deeply grateful for her leadership and commitment – and wish her every success in her next chapter.”

Following Glashow’s exit to Tribeca Enterprises, distribution and content sales moved to fall under Bennett, with UKTV CEO Marcus Arthur taking on global channels. Bennett has made a wealth of changes since coming in to run productions including hiring Jamie Hall as scripted MD and revamping its unscripted offering with Karl Warner and Suzy Lamb.

Brown joined BBC Studios in 2022 from Gunpowder and Sky as President of Content Distribution for North America and Latin America. In October 2024, she stepped into the global role.
