Documentary 2025 Streaming Site Launches


Deadline on Tuesday launched the streaming site for Contenders Film: Documentary, the latest edition of the showcase that shines a spotlight on the year’s buzziest nonfiction features. The virtual event took place Sunday.

A total of 12 movies made up this year’s lineup, which features subjects including songwriter Diane Warren, talking about her doc Diane Warren: Relentless; and directors including Eugene Jarecki with his Julian Assange doc The Six Billion Dollar Man, Dan Farah with explosive UAP revelations in The Age of Disclosure, and writer-directors Bernard MacMahon and Allison McGourty plugging in for the rock doc Becoming Led Zeppelin.

Also in the mix is The Tale of Silyan, which just won the main IDA Awards prize over the weekend; a pair of films from director Andrew Abrahams in the medical thriller Complicated and Dog Warriors; a pair of pics with opera on the brain with Ai Weiwei’s Turandot and Viva Verdi!; The Hemingway, featuring co-director and subject Patrick Sean O’Brien in a film about his ALS journey; Trains, Maciej J Drygas’ silent but powerful look at the history of the world through locomotives; and Trade Secret, Abraham Joffe’s look inside the market for polar bear furs.

The distributors and production companies taking part in this year’s event include Charlotte Street Films and Watermelon Pictures, EPF Media & Drygas Film Production, Incipit Film/La Monte Productions, La Monte Productions/SimonSays Entertainment/Wanbli, MasterClass/Greenwich Entertainment, National Geographic Documentary Films, Oneric Ltd., Open Eye Pictures, Relentless Releasing, Sony Pictures Classics and Untitled Film Works.

Contenders Film: Documentary came on the heels of a weekend doubleheader December 6-7, the day after Contenders Film: International.
