Clear your calendars—and a little closet space: On Saturday, March 28, the annual Vogue Vintage Market—a one-day-only shopping event celebrating the allure of fashion and homeware with a past—returns, with our second annual event hosted by none other than Doja Cat.
If anyone understands the transformative power of vintage, it’s Doja, who is as adept at pulling from couture archives as she is at embracing the avant-garde. (We’re still swooning over her look at last year’s Oscars, when she shimmered in a leopard-print gown inspired by a 1953 Pierre Balmain design, reimagined by Olivier Rousteing.) In other words: She is the perfect ringleader for a market devoted to fashion pieces that tell stories.
We’ll have rack after rack of editorial-worthy vintage and archival finds, sourced from eBay and curated by Amy Astley, Emma Chamberlain, Paloma Elsesser, and Liana Satenstein—vintage-heads who know their way around both a search bar and a runway archive—along with other pieces coming directly from designers’ archives and a select group of Vogue friends, and a selection of mens’ pieces curated by the editorial team at GQ.
A brief sneak peek: Elsesser has unearthed a trove of Prada treasures—including a fairy blouse from the label’s Spring 2008 collection, a diaphanous relic seared into the fashion consciousness of millennials who came of age watching runway slideshows. She’s also pulled some rare Tom Ford–era Yves Saint Laurent chinoiserie heels from Fall 2004—the lotus-embroidered “Opium” pumps that illustrated how Ford’s magic extended beyond Gucci.
Speaking of: Satenstein has leaned fully into her Ford fixation, selecting slinky, high-octane pieces from his tenure at Gucci—along with Versace Jeans gems that harken back to the heyday of designer diffusion lines when logos were loud, and fantasy was democratically priced.
And because vintage isn’t confined to the closet, Architectural Digest’s Amy Astley has curated an edit of design-forward finds and storied objects that bring that same thrill of discovery beyond the hanger and into your home.
The Vogue Vintage Market will be open to Vogue subscribers today, and will open to the public on Tuesday, March 3rd, with an RSVP and donation via the Vogue app. And for those who can’t make it to SoHo’s Roll & Hill showroom, an accompanying online curation—teeming with handpicked gems unearthed on eBay—will also be shoppable on Vogue.com.
Come join us, and own a piece of fashion history!
