EXCLUSIVE: London-based sales agency Film Republic has taken international rights to Isabel Sandoval’s fourth feature, Moonglow, which recently received its world premiere in the Big Screen Competition at International Film Festival Rotterdam.
Sandoval, a US-based Filipino actor, writer and director, also stars in the film alongside Arjo Atayde (Trigger, BuyBust). Set in 1970s Manila, the noir thriller tells the story of the orchestrator of a heist, unwittingly being roped into investigating the very crime she committed.
The film is produced by Alemberg Ang’s Daluyong Studios with Nathan Studios (Philippines), Dasun Pictures (Taiwan) and Yaman Films (Japan).
CAA Media Finance is repping the film in North America.
Sandoval’s directing credits include feature films Señorita, Aparisyon and Lingua Franca, as well as a critically-acclaimed episode of FX Networks’ Under The Banner Of Heaven, starring Andrew Garfield, Daisy Edgar-Jones and Sam Worthington.
Lingua Franca, which premiered at Venice film festival in 2019, was acquired by Ava Du Vernay’s distribution outfit ARRAY in 2020 and streamed on Netflix in North America.
“I’m excited to collaborate with Film Republic on Moonglow, my deeply personal vision of a romantic melodrama shaped through the prism of noir,” said Sandoval. “Film Republic’s commitment to bold auteur cinema makes them the ideal partners to bring it to international audiences.”
