Ryland Grace’s (Ryan Gosling) and Rocky’s (James Ortiz) space odyssey has several meaningful needle drops behind it.
Even before Ryland is sent to space on the titular spaceship to save the sun from dying, there is a poignant karaoke session with Sandra Hüller belting a well-known ballad. The Beatles play a key role in both Andy Weir’s novel, off of which the film is based, and the film’s story as well. Daniel Pemberton’s score captures the otherworldliness of some of Rocky and Ryland’s encounters and solidifies emotional moments in the movie. Music supervision was conducted by Keir Lehman.
