Halle Berry Recalls Confronting Bryan Singer On ‘X-Men’ Set

More than 20 years and an MCU crossover later, Halle Berry is glad she let out her inner storm on the set of X2 (2003).

The Oscar winner recently recalled confronting franchise director Bryan Singer over his on-set behavior while starring, reveling in that she got to tell him “just where to go and how to get there on the set of X-Men one day.”

“Everybody was mad, but they all said to me, ‘Halle, you go tell ’em,’ because they knew I would,” she told Entertainment Weekly. “And it’s one of the greatest days on a set, telling someone who was wronging the entire crew, the entire cast, exactly where to go. And then I got on a plane and flew home with my X-Men suit on.”

Berry added, “I’m sorry, that guy deserved it.”

Singer launched the franchise when he directed X-Men (2000) and X2 (2003), before returning for X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014) and X-Men: Apocalypse (2016).

The director’s last credit was Bohemian Rhapsody (2018), although he was replaced by Dexter Fletcher during production after reportedly clashing with star Rami Malek.

Berry recently admitted she’s “sad” that she won’t reunite with her fellow X-Men in the Russo Bros’ Avengers: Doomsday, but she would return “in a heartbeat” for any future mutant missions.

Following her last appearance as Storm in Days of Future Past, Berry’s franchise co-stars Patrick Stewart (Professor X), Ian McKellen (Magneto), Rebecca Romijn (Mystique), James Marsden (Cyclops), Alan Cumming (Nightcrawler), Kelsey Grammer (Beast) and Channing Tatum (Gambit) have signed on to reprise their roles in Avengers: Doomsday, premiering Dec. 18.

Director Jake Schreier, who is helming Marvel Studios’ X-Men reboot previously gave an update. “I can’t say anything about it, but we’ve started work on X-Men, and that’s obviously very, very exciting,” he told Empire in August.
