‘Hannah Montana’ Anniversary Special Rates For Disney+ & Hulu

Hannah Montana returned for a major anniversary special that performed for Disney+ and Hulu.

The Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special scored 6.3M views on the two streamers. This number included streams for its first three days on the platforms.

It’s hard to contextualize those numbers but Disney said that the anniversary also drove nearly 1,000% increase in viewing of the Hannah Montana catalog over the past week.

The special, which was filmed in front of a live studio audience, featured an in-depth interview with star Miley Cyrus, and came twenty years to the day that the pop star portrayed the alter ego blonde musician on Disney Channel.

Hosted by Call Her Daddy’s Alex Cooper, the special was directed by Sam Wrench (Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour).

Hannah Montana, which was created by Michael Poryes, Rich Correll and Barry O’Brien, ran for four seasons between 2006 and 2011.

It was produced by HopeTown Entertainment and Unwell Productions. Ashley Edens served as showrunner, with Miley Cyrus, Tish Cyrus-Purcell, Alex Cooper and Matt Kaplan as executive producers.

Disney said that the Hannah Montana campaign also scored nearly 440M total impressions and over 30M engagements across social media with the teaser receiving over 120M views in its first 24 hours. The songs from the show have also had a second life with “This Is The Life”, the first song Cyrus performed on the show, seeing a 747% increase on Spotify on March 24.
