UPDATED with latest promos: Harry Styles is both host and musical guest on this week’s Saturday Night Live, but he lost out on at least 15 minutes of rehearsal time if you go by the NBC late-night show’s promo.
That’s because Marcello Hernández, er, borrowed Styles’ outfit and haircut and was actively taking the Studio 8H stage ready to belt out the Grammy winner’s new song “American Girls” in place of Styles.
That is until he saw that Styles and Kenan Thompson were watching the whole thing.
“I thought you weren’t coming, so I thought I would just go on as your understudy,” Hernández explains after noticing them.
Styles counters that he was only 15 minutes late because he and Thompson went out for a couple pain au chocolats, “a tradition when I host.”
Thompson admonishes Hernández: “You forgot the pain au chocolat.”

Styles has appeared several times as musical guest on SNL but Saturday will mark only his second time hosting (the first came in 2019).
This week’s SNL stint comes after Styles released his latest album Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally last week. It marks the follow-up to his 2022 album Harry’s House, which won the Grammy for Album of the Year in 2023.
