He’s just this soft, wonderful, warm, goofy, funny guy. Hudson’s funny and silly, too, but Connor just is so opposite of his character. Well, no, that’s not true. Hudson is too, but he’s just American, not Russian. But I was a little intimidated meeting Connor at first.
I don’t blame you.
I was so impressed by how [different] he is. He had so little time to prep. This was not like a film where he got months to do this. It was two weeks, maybe. It’s really, really impressive. I’m just so impressed with both of them. They’re truly best friends. And thank God the chemistry is real. It’s not just onscreen, and that made all the intimacy, which they talk about, that much more comfortable.
Having been a part of so many dynamics on different sets, have you offered them any advice?
I am allergic to unsolicited advice…but the only thing I’ve said to them throughout this month of their insane schedule is to remember to slow down. They’re both quite relaxed, but I still remind them, “Take a deep breath and just remember to be present. Please, remember to sleep and eat.”
I am kind of being their mom actually, weirdly. Yesterday I said to Hudson, “When are you coming back to Vancouver?” Because he just needs to come over for a meal. I just feel I’ve got to cook him a hearty meal where he doesn’t have to worry about anything, and he doesn’t have to answer any questions, and he doesn’t have to have a fancy outfit on; just sit down and chill.
But I’ve said to them, “Drink it in. This is insane. I know this is crazy. I’m watching you from afar. It’s so great. But also, don’t forget you.”
Have they told you all when you’re going to start shooting season two yet?
It’s in a few months. It’s between summer and fall, but there’s nothing set in stone yet at all, except that there’s a season two.
Have you had conversations with Jacob about Yuna in season two? There are so many places to go with the character based on that final episode in season one.
We haven’t talked about it this month, but we talked about it while we were filming. So I do have an idea the direction it’s going and Yuna’s involvement. I just don’t know specifically, like, “Am I going to be in this scene or this scene?” But she’s involved.
Let’s talk about the “Cottage” episode, which, by the way, can we talk about this cottage? I’m expecting this idyllic, charming, cozy little cottage in the woods. Instead it’s a modern, lakefront, million-dollar property!
I was so confused too. I was like, “Are we going to be filming in a log cabin that doesn’t have running water? What’s happening?” And they were like, “No, no.” It’s an American/Canadian difference. In Canada, everybody knows that “the cottage” is the other home, the other place that you go to. It doesn’t mean a small cabin necessarily. It can mean that, but it also just means the other house out there, not the house in the city.
