EXCLUSIVE: Cameras have started rolling on The Blind Cook (Kusinerang Bulag), a Filipino feature directed by Hugo “Boboy” Yonzon III, with Jean Garcia and Arra San Agustin signed on as leads.
Yonzon directs from a screenplay he also wrote. The film is executive produced by Marilyn Magampon Manila and Cyrene Grace Lubigan.
The film’s official synopsis reads: The Blind Cook follows Luz, a young chef who loses her sight after tragedy but refuses to abandon her family’s restaurant, discovering that resilience — like cooking — requires learning to trust senses beyond sight.
The cast is rounded out by Victor Neri (Baler, BuyBust), Samantha Samarita, and Madeleine Nicolas. Jean Garcia’s daughter, Jennica Garcia, also features in the film. The pair play a fictional mother and daughter in the film.
Principal photography is taking place in Iloilo City and Batanes Island. The project is the second film from Filipino production company Bente Productions. The company was behind I Remember You, the 2025 Boracay-set romance drama starring JC Santos and Valeen Montenegro. The company launched its slate this week at Filmart.
Describing the film in a statement, director Yonzon said food and family form the story’s emotional core.
“In Filipino culture, food is how people gather and care for one another,” Yonzon said. “It’s how affection is expressed in the family. Life brings challenges to everyone. The real story is how people respond when something difficult happens. That’s where resilience begins.”
Filmart ends March 20.
