Jennifer Lopez Gets Down to Business in a Pencil Skirt

There was once a time—from the 2000s to early 2010s—when the humble pencil skirt could take its wearer from the office to the club. Jennifer Lopez is yearning for a return to those simpler days.

J.Lo attempted to bring back 9-to-9 style on an outing in Los Angeles yesterday. While shopping with her daughter in Beverly Hills, Lopez tucked a loose black satin tank top into a skintight black pencil skirt that fell to the middle of her calves. The rest of her look was just as befitting an after-hours office worker: she added a pair of black pointy-toe flats, oversized black square sunglasses, and a miniature black Lady Dior bag.

Lopez isn’t the only one fiending for a pencil skirt revival. Designers have been sending form-fitting, below-the-knee skirts down the runway for the last few seasons. For spring 2026, Anthony Vaccarello paired black leather skirts with cotton poplin tops at Saint Laurent, while Haider Ackermann opted for shiny, snakelike interpretations at Tom Ford, and Simone Bellotti offered a minimalist take at Jil Sander.

This most recent season also proved that the pencil skirt isn’t going anywhere just yet: Marc Jacobs continued to play with the workwear staple’s proportions. Meanwhile, Julian Klausner tried out his signature print clashing at Dries Van Noten and Demna nodded to Gucci’s noughties roots.
