Julia Roberts Debuted Her Lightest Hair Color in Years at the Golden Globes

Julia Roberts has topped best red-carpet hair lists for decades, and last night’s Golden Globes ceremony was no exception. Roberts debuted her lightest color in years, and it’s the perfect inspo for a low-lift winter color transformation.

Roberts, who was also nominated for best actress in a motion picture (drama), ditched her signature auburn for a warm, coppery blonde. While lots of other celebs wore sleek, sculpted styles and vintage-inspired bobs, Roberts opted for tousled, mid-length beach waves with lots of body. To keep her new color grounded (and bring the low-key glam energy home), she also kept her roots dark.

Roberts gave her new hair color the spotlight, wearing a simple plunging black gown with three-quarter-length sleeves. She also added a statement Swarovski pendant and matching ring designed to look like jewel-encrusted strawberries—hey, we love a little red-carpet whimsy—with a short red manicure to match.

If you’re considering brightening up your brunette for winter, this celebrity look is excellent incentive. The warm honey tone is much easier to maintain than icy platinum or ashy blondes (especially if your natural hair has red undertones), and as Roberts illustrated, it works beautifully with a darker root. That means you can add a little brightness to gloomiest season and skip the constant salon trips for maintenance.
