Kate Middleton Just Wore Cowboy Boots for the First Time in 10 Years

Today, Kate Middleton broke her monochrome habit while visiting the Royal National Lifeboat Institution in central London, where she and Prince William learned more about the RNLI’s work saving lives on the River Thames.

The affair was more casual than the last few events she’s appeared at, so she swapped ankle-length dress coats and shimmery earrings for straight trousers, a blue oxford shirt, a Prince of Wales check blazer (wink, wink, nod, nod) and an honestly surprising shoe. While it’s not unusual to see the Princess of Wales in boots—specifically, her favorite pairs of riding or hiking boots—it’s been a minute since we’ve seen the Princess of Wales wearing cowboy boots. And by a minute, we mean a whole decade.

However, these aren’t the Ariats or Tecovas a Texan might keep under their beds. Kate’s Jimmy Choo Cece ankle boots ($1,350) have a pointed toe, a sensible Cuban heel, and are fabricated in a cool brown suede that’s more suited for cobblestones than rodeos. The boots are the ideal footwear for a long day on one’s feet—not to mention, they’re incredibly on-trend, too. Move over, knee-highs, we’re doing ankle boots again!
