December 3, 2025: In an interview with Good Morning America, Cyrus spills the details of the engagement—a rare move for the singer, who has kept this relationship mostly on the down-low. “I am not easy to surprise, because I love to control every situation. And I had completely surrendered,” she tells Chris Connelly, describing the proposal. Morando popped the question on a trip to Japan, which Cyrus explains was particularly meaningful for her. “I actually had never gone to Japan, which, I did that purposefully. I wanted one place in the world that could be my special place that I saved for me,” she says.
Cyrus also takes a moment to gush a little about her partner. “Me and Max have been together for four years, and it’s very obvious the drastic amount of growth that I’ve had in those four years…and that really, a lot of that is because I have a great partner,” she says. “You just want to dream the biggest you can, and you want to have someone by your side that always tells you you can do it.”
December 2025: The powers that be confirm her engagement! Cyrus and Morando walked the red carpet for the premiere of Avatar: Fire and Ash in Los Angeles (she did a song for the movie), with her diamond ring on full display. Though it looks as though she’s been wearing this ring at least since her birthday in November, so we don’t actually know when the proposal happened, this is when “a source” decides to confirm to People that it is, in fact, an engagement ring, and the pair are set to marry.
