It’s a great week for nostalgia: Coming back into our lives is Hannah Montana, the beloved Disney character brought to life by Miley Cyrus for four seasons back in the late 2000s. Cyrus has officially stepped back into Hannah’s shoes (and iconic blonde wig) for the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special, which is now available to stream on Disney+. Last night, a red carpet was also hosted for the special’s Los Angeles premiere, and Cyrus, naturally, emerged in full-character for it.
The star’s outfit was less of a proper costume, though, and a more campy-chic spin on Hannah Montana’s signature style. When you think of the character, you likely think of a flashy, Y2K aesthetic (the more colors and sequins, the better). So, as a fitting homage, Cyrus wore a silver chainmail dress from the Rabanne spring 2024 ready-to-wear collection, swapping out the T-shirt the look was styled with on the runway for a custom graphic tee bearing her own face. A little high-fashion, and a little gaudy and self-referential—her look simply had the best of both worlds.

Of course, seeing Cyrus take a more avant-garde approach to Hannah Montana fashion is something you can expect to see in the new Disney+ special. In the official poster, for one, we see her in-character wearing a look by Alexander McQueen, among other statement outfits in the special.
The star hit the red (rather, purple) carpet with her mom Tish yesterday evening, shortly before delivering a brief speech ahead of the screening at the El Capitan Theatre. On-stage, Cyrus reflected on the now-iconic role that made her famous. “Everything in my life is so amazing because Disney took a chance on me,” said Cyrus. “I had no business coming out to L.A. thinking I could carry a show, or pretend to be a pop star. I had no experience.” Two decades later, her 2026 approach to Hannah Montana style still hits home. Can fans expect a full-on series reboot? We wouldn’t hold our breathe on that one: Cyrus says she is “tired. This has already been a lot.”
