‘New Girl’ Reunion’ Teased By Jake Johnson; But Is Lamorne Morris In?

The hit Zooey Deschanel comedy series The New Girl signed off close to eight years ago, with cast reuniting for a 2020 voting PSA and also a small assembly at the Actors Awards last year, but what about a real reunion in the streaming era where revivals thrive?

Jake Johnson who played Nick, the better-half to Deschanel’s Jess on the show, believes there’s a reunion that’s possible, but joked to us at the Deadline SXSW Studio that Lamore Morris is holding it up. Morris played Winston on the Liz Meriwether created Fox show, one of the idiosyncratic dude roommates of Jess, along with Schmidt (Max Greenfield).

“We’re all in besides Lamorne,” teased Johnson

Why?

“Because he got an Emmy and he thinks they’re better than us,” Johnson continued, “And I have direct quotes saying ‘I’m too talented and too funny to be on a sitcom with you, hacks.’”

Morris received a Supporting Actor Limited Series Emmy for his turn in the fifth season of Fargo. Morris also stars in Johnson’s latest SXSW movie, The Sun Never Sets from filmmaker Joe Swanberg.

“And the stuff he has said about me, Max — it’s disgusting!”

“The Emmy went to his head, I’m going to say that really clearly,” quipped Johnson giving a shout to Morris, “It changed you, my man, but come back to the real you. I’ve also talked to your family about this!”

“By the way, we’re with the fans. All the fans want it too, write to Lamore on Instagram. Because he doesn’t want it. He doesn’t like the fans!”

When we last left Nick and Jess, they were tying the knot in a hospital. Meanwhile, Winston sees his first child brought into the world with g.f. Aly (Nasim Pedrad).
