Gavin Newsom has long made trolling and slagging Donald Trump a bit of a game, and now with tonight’s State of the Union speech, the California governor has made it official.
“Tonight, we’re playing Trump Crash Out Bingo,” Newsom announced online Tuesday just a few hours before Trump is set to address a joint house of Congress. “Who can call BINGO first?”
While Newsom, who has an event in NYC this evening plugging his just published Young Man in a Hurry memoir, is not delivering the Democrats’ response to the first SOTU of Trump’s second term, the currently undeclared 2028 Dems frontrunner has staked out a choice spot, so to speak.

Laying out squares with hot SOTU topics like “Off-script tangent,” “Epstein mention,” “Trump acts like he just learned ‘groceries’ is a word,” and, with a nod the self-declared “number #1 fan” of POTUS, a“Random Nicki Minaj callout. Taken with a heflty grain of political points salt and clickbait, Newsom’s Bingo card grid has all the hallmarks of a Trump burn itself — and may be as much homage as it is critique.

The Golden State Governor’s mocking aside, the former Apprentice host has already promised tonight’s SOTU will be a “long speech” (Newsom’s Bingo card has a “Trump speaks for 90+ minutes” square on it) with likely heavy emphasis on the Project 2025 of his first year back in office. The White House hasn’t released any SOTU excerpts yet, but an energy deal with data center building tech companies and lots of America 250 also seems to be in the cards, as does the situation with Iran and the economy.
With the State of the Union scheduled to start at 6 pm PT/9 pm ET, coverage formally begins on the likes of C-Span, CNN, MS Now, the defunded PBS, Telemundo and Fox News at around 5 pm PT/8 pm ET. NewsNation are leaning in a little earlier with a SOTU edition of The Hill with Blake Burman starting at 3 pm PT/6 pm ET. Networks ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox and all their various streaming outlets, as well as YouTube and social media platforms will air Trump’s remarks live.
The official response to Trump’s fifth SOTU will be coming from new(ish) Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger in English. A Spanish reply to Trump will be made by California senior Senator (and ICE punching bag) Alex Padilla.
Based on Trump’s own statement and tendencies this could end up being the longest SOTU ever. Bill Clinton’s 2000 farewell SOTU tops the list presently at 88 minutes and 49 seconds. While technically not a SOTU, Trump’s 2025 address to Congress soon after retaking office clocked in at 99 minutes and 39 seconds — maybe he will best that tonight.
That’s a bingo!
