EXCLUSIVE: The Apple TV series Palm Royale has taken its final bow. The Emmy-nominated dramedy was canceled at the streamer after two seasons.
Palm Royale was created by Abe Silva and starred an ensemble cast led by Kristen Wiig, which included Laura Dern, Allison Janney, Ricky Martin, Josh Lucas, Leslie Bibb, Amber Chardae Robinson, Mindy Cohn, Julia Duffy, and the legendary Carol Burnett.
The show’s first season received 11 Emmy Award nominations, including Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy for Wiig, and Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for Burnett. Of the 11 noms, the series took home an Emmy statuette for Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music. For Season 2, Wiig has been nominated for the Annual Actor Awards, as well as a GLAAD Media Award nomination for Outstanding Comedy Series.

Loosely based on Juliet McDaniel’s novel Mr. and Mrs. American Pie and produced by Apple Studios, Palm Royale is a true underdog story that follows Maxine Simmons (Wiig) in 1969 as she endeavors to break into Palm Beach high society.
Armed with fabulous ensembles and accessories, as well as her quick wit, Maxine attempts to cross that impermeable line between the haves and the have-nots. The dramedy asks the same question: How much of yourself are you willing to sacrifice to get what someone else has?
In Season 2, Maxine is left a social pariah after a scandalous public breakdown. She’ll have to draw on her deep well of cleverness and cunning to prove, once and for all, that not only does she belong, but she might have what it takes to rule this town. Along the way, she will uncover untold truths and finally understand what this town is truly built on: secrets, lies, and the occasional felony.

Regarding the storyline, Palm Royale did not have a proper conclusion. However, there was a special tribute to Burnett’s character, Norma Dellacorte, in her planned final episode. As Norma, Burnette sang a warm rendition of “Something Good” in the Season 2 finale.
Additional notable Season 2 cast includes Claudia Ferri, Jason Canela, Jordan Bridges, James Urbaniak, Roberto Sanchez, Rick Cosnett, and Ryan Dorsey. The show’s sophomore season welcomed John Stamos, Patti LuPone, Vicki Lawrence, and Matt Rogers.
Hailing from Apple Studios, Palm Royale was written, executive produced and showrun by Sylvia for Aunt Sylvia’s Moving Picture Company. The series was executive produced by Dern, Jayme Lemons for Jaywalker Pictures, Wiig and Katie O’Connell Marsh. Sharr White, Sheri Holman, Becky Mode and Stephanie Laing also served as executive producers.
