‘Paranormal Activity 8’ Sets Summer 2027 Release From Paramount

Paramount has set a May 21, 2027 release for a new Paranormal Activity movie from filmmaker Ian Tuason. Plot details are under wrap, but the Melrose lot will co-finance with Blumhouse-Atomic Monster.

Producers are Blumhouse-Atomic Monster’s James Wan and Jason Blum as well as the franchise’s original creator Oren Peli on behalf of Solana Films. EPs are Michael Clear and Judson Scott both from Blumhouse-Atomic Monster as well as Steven Schneider of Room 101, Inc.

The original Paranormal Activity, championed by Blumhouse, and directed and written by Peli was made for $15K and with post production cost $200K, reaping $194 million worldwide, making it one of the most profitable films in cinema history with an unprecedented ROI. Following its debut, Paranormal Activity became a global phenomenon, redefining the found-footage and supernatural genres, and proving that small-scale productions can yield massive returns.

The franchise expanded to seven installments, including Paranormal Activity 2 (2010), Paranormal Activity 3 (2011), Paranormal Activity 4 (2012), The Marked Ones (2014), The Ghost Dimension (2015), and Next of Kin (2021). All in the Paranormal Activity movies have minted north of $900 million at the global box office.

The only other major studio wide entry on May 21 next year is Warner Bros’ Cynthia Erivo voiced animated title Bad Fairies.
