Phoebe Dynevor Shark Movie Headed To Netflix From Sony (EXCLUSIVE)

EXCLUSIVE: Sony Pictures‘ shark thriller written and directed by Tommy Wirkola and starring Phoebe Dynevor is heading to Netflix from Sony Pictures, which pulled the flick from its theatrical release calendar today.

Plot details for the pic, also starring Whitney Peak and Djimon Hounsou, remain under wraps. Most recently known as Shiver but now untitled, it’s produced by HyperObject Industries’ Adam McKay and Kevin Messick, as well as Wirkola.

“We couldn’t be more excited to be back in business with all our friends at Netflix on this film,” producer McKay told us. “We had a great experience together on Don’t Look Up and look forward to working with them to make this an event streaming release in 2026.”

Earlier this week closing a $7B+ exclusive global pay-1 deal, in a continuation of their streaming partnership, Sony and Netflix have previously collaborated on Sony Pictures Animation’s Oscar-nominated The Mitchells vs. the Machines, with a sequel in development. Netflix has a first-look deal with Sony Pictures for any of the studio’s direct-to-streaming titles. The most recent film produced under this arrangement was Sony Pictures Animation’s K-Pop Demon Hunters, which is now the most-watched film of all time on Netflix with over 325 million views.

Sony Pictures’ deal with Netflix is additive to the studio’s full theatrical slate. Coming off the release of 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, their 2026 slate also includes Sony Pictures Animation’s GOAT, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Resident Evil, The Social Reckoning, and the next installment in the Jumanji franchise.
