Prime Video Hands ‘Der Tiger’ Worldwide Launch In Early 2026

EXCLUSIVE: German anti-war pic Der Tiger will hit Prime Video worldwide on January 2, 2026.

The thriller-drama, about a five-man German Tiger tank crew on a secret mission, was the first Amazon original movie out of Germany to get a local theatrical release before streaming. As we revealed in July, the film landed a release in select German CineStar cinemas, starting from September 18.

The Dennis Gansel-directed pic is now heading worldwide to the 240 territories where Prime Video is available. You can view the trailer with English-language subtitles above.

Der Tiger, whose English title is The Tank, stars  David Schütter, Laurence Rupp, Leonard Kunz, Sebastian Urzendowsky and Yoran Leicher, with supporting roles from the likes of Tilman Strauß and André M. Hennicke.

Set on the Second World War’s Eastern Front in 1943, it follows the tank crew as they operate secretly behind the heavily contested front line. Journey eastward, they find themselves in deeper in enemy territory as they face their own fears and inner demons. Stimulated by Wehrmacht methamphetamine, the mission increasingly becomes a journey into the heart of darkness.

Pantaleon Films is the producer in association with Amazon MGM Studios Germany. Frank Kusche and Dan Maag are the producers on the pic, whose screenplay comes from Gansel and Colin Teevan. Carlo Jelavic serves as director of photography, with Nick Palmer on for production design. Anke Winckler was in charge of costume design, with hair and make-up design from Meg Tanner.

Prime Video has been an active player in the German originals market, ordering and producing the likes of LOL: Last One Laughing, Maxton Hall – The World Between Us, Perfect Miss, The Calender Killer, Dinner Club and The 50.
