‘R.J. Decker’ Moving To 9 PM Tuesdays As It Awaits Season 2 Renewal

ABC‘s new Scott Speedman light crime drama R.J. Decker is on the move. Currently airing in the Tuesday 10 PM slot behind High Potential, the freshman series will slide into High Potential‘s Tuesday 9 PM berth once the Kaitlin Olson drama wraps its second season on April 7. (Like all other ABC shows, R.J. Decker streams next day on Hulu.)

The move mirrors The Rookie’s shift from 10 PM to 9 PM on Tuesdays last season after it premiered its seventh season behind High Potential. (The Nathan Fillion series relocated to Mondays earlier this year to make room for R.J. Decker.)

In the lead-up to R.J. Decker’s 9 PM debut on April 14, ABC will re-air the show’s first three episodes back-to-back on Thursday, April 9. That shows a commitment to the newbie from the network, giving R.J. Decker extra exposure as it is evaluating the series for renewal.

After a solid launch with 3.69 million Live+Same day viewers to post ABC’s most-watched 10 PM drama debut in over five years, R.J. Decker has been pretty consistent and a regular presence in Hulu’s Daily Top 5. While not a breakout hit of the size of High Potential, it is looking promising for renewal at the moment but it still too early three weeks into the show’s run.

A new series that launched alongside R.J. Decker this midseason and looks like a lock for renewal with strong multi-platform delivery is the Scrubs reboot.

Written by Rob Doherty, R.J. Decker stars Speedman as the eponymous character, a former newspaper photographer and ex-con who starts over as a private investigator in the colorful-if-crime-filled world of South Florida. Jaina Lee Ortiz, Bevin Bru, Kevin Rankin and Adelaide Clemens also star.

Inspired by Carl Hiaasen’s novel Double Whammy, R.J. Decker is produced by 20th Television. Doherty serves as showrunner, writer and executive producer. Hiaasen, Carl Beverly and Sarah Timberman are executive producers. Paul McGuigan directs and executive produces, and Speedman is a producer.
