As a wise woman once sang, “Shine bright like a diamond.” Today, Rihanna is living by her own decree.
In a modern take on the Breakfast at Tiffany’s special, Rih added some glitz to an LBD, accessorizing the sexy, lingerie-esque dress with a collar necklace, a cocktail ring, and a brooch affixed to her furry jacket. But Rih brought the diamonds from head to toe; Just north of her black pointy-toe pump, she draped an anklet around her tattoo, letting the strands of diamonds rest atop the arch of her foot.
Given the amount of wear and tear they face, anklets are usually a more subtle, practical piece of jewelry—often durable chains with little to no embellishments. But fashion-forward celebrities are making a case for the statement anklet. This past holiday season, Hailey Bieber eschewed tinsel and sequins for another source of sparkle: a show-stopping statement anklet. In mid-December, Bieber was spotted en route to a holiday party, where her brand new bling caught the light of the paparazzi’s flashes.
In early January, Bieber gave a closer look at the anklet on Instagram, where she posed her blinged-out nameplate alongside her son Jack’s foot. It is, after all, in his honor. Bieber commissioned New York-based jeweler Alex Moss for the 14-karat diamond-encrusted cursive scrawl. “Hailey was looking for a small charm anklet that was personalized to her. ‘Jack’ is what she decided, in honor of her son,” Moss tells Vogue.
Bieber is a noted fan of anklets. In the summer of 2023, she was particularly fond of a gold chain with dangling diamonds. While they tend to fly under the radar, she’s making the case for anklets as the next big statement piece. Who better for the job than Moss, who fashioned Bieber’s puffy pavé B pendant, or Justin’s colorful diamond-coated mushroom necklaces. As Moss says, “2026 is about redefining jewelry. Anklets are back because the unexpected is the new luxury.”
