I’ve always known that the things I value in a man are a little unconventional, by broad sociocultural standards. I really don’t care if a guy is tall or in finance, so long as he’s genuinely funny and has seen what I deem to be the correct television shows. (To wit: I recently crashed out over a man whose only redeeming factor was the fact that he had seen every episode of The Anna Nicole Show… but the less said about that, the better.)
To that end, a bit of pop-culture discourse recently reached me that I found so incredibly charming, I couldn’t believe everyone wasn’t shouting it from the rooftops. Last week, Robert Pattinson—who is currently doing press for his new film, The Drama—had a quote of his from a 2025 interview go soft-viral, in which the actor said to director Bong Joon Ho: “I remember you talking to a Korean interviewer about Premier League football, and I just felt so embarrassed. I wish I could be with the guys and talk about sports…The only thing I know is, like, conspiracy theories on Reddit and celebrity gossip.”
In a world of men who are addicted to telling you how much they know about just about everything (we get it! You’ve seen a few PTA movies in your day, and you have thoughts!), I find something not just refreshing but genuinely sexy about Pattinson’s admission. Too often, celebrity gossip—or, as we in the business call it, “celeb goss”—is made out to be solely the province of women and gay guys, but let’s be real; we all want to know what the Kardashians are up to, and I think it’s deeply hot when a cishet man just comes right out and says it.
The other part of Pattinson’s statement that I find mysteriously sexy is the slight wistfulness of it; his longing to simply bro out with other guys about sports is very sweet and “Wells for Boys”-core. But ultimately, there’s nothing more appealing than a straight guy who can genuinely queen out about the important things in life (the aforementioned celeb goss, duh) without zoning out or seeming patronizing. Also, Pattinson is a celebrity, so you know he’s got the tea!
