EXCLUSIVE: Fresh off success with The Rip, which has remained in Netflix’s top 10 global film list for six weeks, Sasha Calle has signed on for a role in The Exorcist, the next installment of the iconic horror franchise, which Universal releases in theaters on Friday, March 12, 2027.
Calle’s role is being kept under wraps, as is the plot of the film, written and directed by Mike Flanagan, which is shooting in New York City. What’s known is that the film will tell an all-new story set in The Exorcist universe and is not a sequel to 2023’s The Exorcist: Believer. As previously announced, the cast also includes Scarlett Johansson, Jacobi Jupe, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Laurence Fishburne, and Diane Lane.
In addition to writing and directing, Flanaghan is producing via his Red Room Pictures banner, alongside David Robinson for Morgan Creek Entertainment and Jason Blum for Blumhouse-Atomic Monster. Exec producers include Alexandra Magistro for Red Room Pictures and Ryan Turek for Blumhouse-Atomic Monster.
Calle stars opposite Matt Damon and Ben Affleck in Joe Carnahan’s Netflix crime thriller The Rip, which spent three weeks at #1 on Netflix’s global English-language film list after premiering in January and remains at #7.
The actress made her feature film debut as Supergirl in Warner Bros.’ The Flash, becoming the first Latina actress to portray the iconic superhero in a major studio film. She also appeared in Daniel Minahan’s On Swift Horses, alongside Daisy Edgar-Jones, Jacob Elordi, Will Poulter, and Diego Calva, and stars in Alessandra Lacorazza Samudio’s In the Summers, which won both Grand Jury and Directing Awards at Sundance 2024.
Up next, Calle will be seen starring alongside Colin Farrell in Season 2 of Apple’s Sugar. She is represented by CAA and Del Shaw Moonves.
